Macroplea appendiculata - A reed beetle



Range & Status

Very localised across Britain and has become increasingly scarce in recent years.

Regional Distribution

Recorded in west Cornwall from Marazion Marsh in 1981.

Habitat & Ecology

Associated with Pondweeds Potamogeton spp. and Water-milfoils Myriophyllum spp.; the larvae are aquatic and the adults rarely emerge from the water.

Threats

Silting or artificial in-filling of ponds; pollution.

Conservation

Protect ponds and their catchments from damaging activities.
