Cornish Red Data (2009)

The descriptive text, below the map, is from the Cornish Red Data Book (2009). The map on this web page depicts the organisms distribution and shows the records made pre-2000 and those made since.

Testacella maugei - Mauge's Slug

Range & Status

T. maugei is carnivorous subterranean slug which feeds on earthworms. In Britain it

occurs mainly in the west and is recorded from 35 10 km grid squares. The range in

England has declined in recent years, possibly due to increased use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but also probably from land development and loss of old gardens. There are a number of post-1965 records including post-1999 records from both VC1 and VC2, although the species may be threatened in Cornwall as elsewhere.
